Surgery // The Spinal Column

Our clinic is focused on minimally invasive surgery procedures in cases of a precise indication. We also offer our patients a large array of classical surgical procedures with the exception of endoprosthesis and ostheosynthesis in large bone fractures.

The Spinal Column:

  • Paravertebral cortizone infiltrations in degenerative conditions of the intervertebral articulations.

  • The treatment of cervical and lumbar disc hernias with nucleoplasty. Nucleoplasty is a percutaneous method that utilizes a double radiofrequency probe to coagulate and ablate the nucleus of the intervertebral disc which in turn reduces it volume and leads to the retraction of the hernia. This method is remarkably efficient having achieved positive results in over 85% of the cases. It is particularly well-suited to younger patients, with an active and productive lifestyle. The post-operative recovery period is rapid and the successful use of the technique eliminates the need for a complex and protracted regimen of physiotherapy.

  • The treatment of lumbar disc hernias with Automated Percutaneous Nucleotomy. This technique uses a probe to extract a part of the pulpous nucleus of the intervertebral disc; reducing the pressure caused by the hernia. The indications of this technique have become incereasingly rare as nucleoplasty provides superior results.

  • The minimally invasive surgical treatment of pathologic vertebral fractures (tumors, ostheoposrosis) through Vertebroplasty. A poliacrylic cement is injected under pressure in the vertebrae stabilizing fractures of the body of the vertebrae especially those produced by tumors- and significantly reducing the pain and improving the quality of life. We use the most modern technique of vertebroplasty utilizing Parallax, produced by the American company ArthroCareSpine . Minimally invasive surgical thechniques are suitable for certain kinds (degrees) of hernias- contained (closed) hernias. Other types of hernias must be surgically treated in the classical manner (open surgery).

  • Nerve blocks of the intervertebral joints-Facet block One of the most common afflictions of the spinal column, responsible for intense, long-term pain, is arthrosis of the intervertebral articulations (spondilarthrosis). If paravertebral cortisone infiltrations do not give results a nerve block may be performed using laser or cryotherapy techniques.
